New Delhi, April 21: In yet another investigation on initiatives by former Samajwadi Party government, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered an investigation of the prestigious Yash Bharti awards.
The awards which were started by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has been accused of favouritism and nepotism in the past few years.
While reviewing the work of the Culture Department on late Thursday night, Adityanath asked officials to look into the list of awardees recipient, and remove the non-deserving candidates.
He also asked to check the parameters and merits on which the awards are given.
In addition, he asked officers to take necessary action on the people found guilty of nepotism and favouritism.
The award has been given to several famous B-town personalities including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Kailash Kher, Arjun Rampal, Nawazuddin Siddiqui among others.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 11 lakh and a lifelong monthly pension of Rs 50,000. They were given to as many as 80 persons from different walks of life last year.
