New Delhi, January 6: When in 2004, a reporter asked Mulayam about his possibilities of joining the NDA, Mulayam was quick to retort by saying, "Aap hi batao, aaj tak Mulayam ko koi ghr paaya hai."
12 years have passed ever since then and the wily old fox Mulayam Singh is not at his strongest anymore.
The latest family fued has seen his son Akhilesh promoting him to the status of a mentor but still cannot afford to utter a word that undermines the stature of the Samajwadi Party.
Akhilesh who minced no words agains his uncle and Mulayam's friend Amar Singh has been praising Mulayam publicly. He is aware that Mulayam is the only person as of now who has capabilities to turn the party cadre gainst him.
Mulayam had called an emergency convention of the party executive on the 5th of January to dispel the confusions around the party president which has been taken over by Akhilesh and company which was suddenly called off. No one spelled out the beans as to what lead to the sudden cancellation of the meeting.
Akhilesh's suspension from the Samajwadi Party was on the condition that the Akhilesh group refused to go ahead with its 1st January convention.
Meanwhile, Mulayam has already staked his claims on the party’s election symbol in order to discredit Akhilesh Yadav group knowing fully well that any electoral success for Akhilesh in UP 2017 polls means curtains for him and his brother Shivpal Yadav.
