New Delhi, March 11: Sholay is one of the iconic films of Bollywood, which is still is remembered for Jai and Veeru's bromance, and is often referred to as a benchmark of cinematic brilliance.
Amitabh Bachchan, who played the iconic character of Jai in 'Sholay' remembered the time when the filmmaker waited for 3 years to get the perfect shot for a particular sequence in the film.
Big B was addressing the audience at the launch of Ramesh Sippy Academy of Cinema & Entertainment where he revealed behind the scene story of a shot in which he and Jaya Bachchan shared screen space.
Amitabh said: "I wonder if you remember a scene in Sholay where Jaya (Bachchan) had to light a lamp in the corridor and I am sitting in the outhouse playing the mouth organ. There was particular kind of lighting that was required for the shot. Our DOP Mr Divecha was keen to take the shot at the time of sunset. You would not believe that Rameshji spent almost three years before we finally got that shot."

"Every time we would go to enact that sequence, something would not be right with the lighting. And Rameshji said 'until we get a correct light, we are not going to shoot this'. We waited for three years for one flash of a shot for the film," the 73-year-old actor added.
Furthermore, the song Yeh Dosti which is almost five minutes long took about 21 days to be filmed. Also, the book Sholay: The Making of a Classic mentioned that the scene in which Gabbar Singh kills Imam’s son was shot in about 19 days. The train robbery scene, according to the book, was shot in seven weeks.
