New Delhi, January 9: A petition has been filed in Election Commission against Bahujan Samaj Party's supremo Mayawati for doing vote bank politics on the basis of caste and religion even after the prohibition implemented by Supreme Court.
The petition to EC also requested an FIR to be filed against BSP chief for repeated violation of moral conduct before Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
The petition also sought seizure of affiliation of BSP as it often plays 'Dalit' and 'Muslim' card for collecting votes.
The Supreme Court had recently ruled that “religion, race, caste, community or language would not be allowed to play any role in the electoral process” and that election of a candidate would be declared null and void if an appeal is made to seek votes on these considerations. The decision was backed by EC who asked political outfits to stick by the law.
